The principle of bearings

• Core Mechanism: Convert Sliding Friction into Rolling Friction
  • The inner ring is fitted with the shaft with an interference fit and rotates synchronously with the shaft, while the outer ring is fixed with the bearing housing or rotates with the shell.
  • Rolling elements (such as balls and rollers) are clamped between the raceways of the inner ring and the outer ring. When the shaft rotates, the rolling elements perform pure rolling on the raceways, replacing the sliding friction generated by the direct contact between the shaft and the bearing housing.
  • The friction coefficient of rolling friction (0.001–0.005) is much lower than that of metal sliding friction (0.1–0.3), which greatly reduces energy loss and component wear.
  
  
  • Radial load transmission: For bearings such as deep groove ball bearings and cylindrical roller bearings, the load is transmitted through the inner ring raceway → rolling elements → outer ring raceway → bearing housing. The rolling elements share the load evenly to avoid local stress concentration.
  • Axial load transmission: For bearings such as thrust ball bearings, the rolling elements are arranged perpendicular to the axis, directly bearing the axial force and transmitting it to the bearing housing.
  • Compound load transmission: For bearings such as angular contact ball bearings and tapered roller bearings, the raceway forms a certain contact angle with the axis, which can decompose both radial and axial loads onto the rolling elements at the same time.
